Sometimes, when the Mitteler Rebbe, and later his son-in-law the Tzemach Tzedek, would have a private audience with people (
yechidus), they would interrupt the meeting for a period of time and then later continue the
yechidus. When asked for the reason, each explained: When someone comes for
yechidus to ask for a
tikkun (rectification) for a certain matter, I must find a trace of that matter in myself, and only then can I respond. When this person asked me something concerning a very lowly matter, I could not find even a trace of that in myself, so I had to interrupt the
yechidus [and dig deeper into myself until I could indeed find a trace of it within, and only then could I offer advice].
